We show that eleven-dimensional supergravity backgrounds with thirty one supersymmetries, N = 31, admit an additional Killing spinor and so they are locally isometric to maximally supersymmetric ones. This rules out the existence of simply connected eleven-dimensional supergravity preons. We also show that N = 15 solutions of type I supergravities are locally isometric to Minkowski spacetime. T...
متن کاملObituary: Gail D. Adams, Ph.D. 1918–2010
Gail D. Adams was one of the founding members of both AAPM and ACMP. He helped shape the profession that all of us enjoy today. Gail had a major impact on scientific and professional activities. His pioneering efforts were felt in all areas of medical physics and radiation oncology. Gail was very clinical and he participated as a partner of the radiation oncologist in the radiation treatment pr...
متن کاملDetection of neutral carbon in the M 31 dark cloud D 478
Emission from the P1 − 3 P0 [CI] transition at 492 GHz has been detected towards the dark cloud D478 in the Local Group galaxy M 31. Using literature detections of the lower CO and CO transitions, models for the gas distribution in D 478 are discussed. The observed CO and C line ratios can be explained by twocomponent models (high density cores and low-density envelopes); single-density models ...

We propose an alternative characterisation of object-based distributed systems in terms of algebraic structures and topological spaces. Some examples are given in order to attest the adequacy of this approach to the subject. We also illustrate a method of transference of results from these mathematical theories that can further contribute to the advancement of distributed systems theory.
